Choosing the right cooling system isn’t easy, especially without the help of an HVAC professional. As a result, many homeowners are questioning themselves if the cooling equipment they have is too big for their home. Is my A/C right for my home, you ask?
If in doubt, then continue reading to discover the telltale signs that you have an oversized A/C!
Short Cycles
Does your room cool faster than expected? An oversized A/C will only run in short cycles for at least eight to ten minutes, causing your system to easily wear out. An ideal cycle should be around 15-20 minutes. When the cooling cycle is shorter than that, it robs your home of its comfort, while increasing the risk of repairs.
High Electric Bills
You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure this out. While your air conditioning is working too hard, your electric bills might be soaring high at the same time. If your utility bills are always above the roof even if you’re conserving energy, then your A/C might be the culprit.
Temperature Swings
Is one room cooler than the others? A bigger A/C doesn’t guarantee consistent and even temperature. It only causes your system to work harder than it should. So, if you think that a bigger A/C can cool your home better, then you’re wrong! An oversized A/C equipment can lead to costly problems.
